I have never been a history buff but found listening to the audible version of Killing Lincoln very interesting.
Even though I was quite familiar with some of the facts of the assassination of President Lincoln, I did not know much about what all transpired beforehand. The first part of the book gives much detail about the battles that ensued between General Grant and General Lee. I never realized what these soldiers had to go through during the war. The authors made you feel like you were right there in the middle of the battles that eventually led to Lee’s surrender.
I was not aware that so many others were involved in the assassination of President Lincoln. I learned more from this book then I did in my high school history class. The reader is given some very gruesome details of what happened to President Lincoln right after the shooting. I also learned many things about John Wilkes Booth that I did not know before.
The audible version of this book is read by Bill O’Reilly and he makes it interesting for the listener. Anyone interested in the Civil War will enjoy reading or listening to Killing Lincoln. The book is well organized and very concise and makes the reader aware of how much America changed on the night President Lincoln was assassinated. Many other reviews state there are inaccuracies in this book and on the other hand, there are several reviews that disagree with that point. Are the negative reviews based on the fact that Bill O’Reilly wrote this book? I can’t answer that question; but no matter what, it is still a great read.
